The RPF-Inkotanyi Chairman, President Paul Kagame has on behalf of saluted Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) saying that their dedication and bravery is what gives Rwandans safety to be bring where the country to where it is today.
He was speaking Tuesday at the RDF Combat Training Centre in Gabiro where he presided over the conclusion of the final phase of the annual Combined Arms Field Training Exercise.
The annually held exercise is aimed at perfecting drills necessary for efficient employment, harbouring, occupation of positions, movement of division troops and equipment as well as cooperation of all arms in any military operation.
After inspecting the drills, the Chairman, who is also the Commander in Chief of armed forces, interacted with troops at the training centre.
“You work under the sun, the rain, in the middle of forests and different environments, and we ask ourselves whether what we give you is enough,” he told the officers and men.
The answer is that it can never be enough, he added.
“This job goes beyond the individual, it is for the nation."
He added that in the world we live in today, bravery and dedication are not enough but they are the foundation.
“You have to seek knowledge and do your job to the best of your ability. That is what makes a qualified army,” he said.
“When we look at salaries or other resources, we know that even though you deserve to be given more, we do not have enough means,” the Chairman added.
He told the forces that the government has to spend the little resources on other aspects like education, health and on delivering development to the citizenry.
To the armed forces, he said that every bullet you shoot counts. Every resource you use must accomplish its purposes.
“We do not have room to waste. We have to deliver results beyond the resources we have,” he added.
Reminiscing of where the country was coming from especially during the liberation struggle by the RPF-Inkotanyi armed wing, the Rwanda Patriotic Army, the Chairman said that being equipped, much as it is important, is not an end into itself, adding that commitment is key.
“(During the liberation struggle) We used to go to the battlefield with 10 bullets in our gun, our enemies had maybe 100…but to win the war you do not need 100 bullets. When the bullets are done, you are the one left standing to accomplish the mission,” he said.
